Motor racing, charitable giving and safety; now that is a topic and a half.

I have deliberately waited until all the hubris has settled down on this matter as I wanted to see where we, as the motor racing community, and the world, ended up, after some serious knee jerk statements and noises appeared from across the spectrum. What, or who, am I talking about? – Bill Monger and his life changing accident of course....

NMA’s ADVENTURES WITH NAPIER RACING – PART 3

NMA’s ADVENTURES WITH NAPIER RACING – PART 2

The first two NMA students joining us for work experience were Lewis Taylor and Zach Lynskey. We decided to split their efforts across the Honda S2000 and S1 Lotus Elise. Lewis would be working with us both the Saturday and Sunday, and being an experienced heavy transport mechanic we felt his skills would be ideal to help with a full engine / gearbox swap and clutch change on the S1 Lotus. Zach was to be around for the just the Sunday, and so he’d be busy fabricating the front air box and splitter for the S2000...

NMA’s ADVENTURES WITH NAPIER RACING – PART 1

By the time many of you read this, a number of your fellow NMA FdSc Motorsport Engineering Students will have carried out their first weekend working with my team, Napier Racing. I thought it would be interesting and fun to blog over the following weeks so you can all see the progress not only the cars are making with the assistance of the student body, but hopefully see how the students themselves (assuming they come back after their first visit) progress with picking up new skills along the way...

NMA do PRI 2016 at the Indianapolis Convention Centre

So where to begin? Well on the morning of Tuesday 13th December I could have likened my emotions to the opening lines from Beverley Cravens Promise me (although she seemed perfectly happy to discuss 4 am as if it were a common occurrence in someone’s day), but 4am was indeed the beginning of our journey to the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) annual show in Indianapolis...

Arguing with the Ref…….So where does that leave Vettel?

Please bear in mind that this is being written in the hours after the Mexican Grand Prix and events may yet overtake the crazy ravings of an armchair blogger. Anyway, the torrent of abuse that emanated from the Red Team star driver yesterday afternoon is what prompted this blog so let’s have a look at my title subject...

SNETTERTON - GT Cup 2016

'Sweet Dreams’ After the misery of Silverstone and the broken gearbox, not only had we suffered our first DNS’s (Did not start) of the season but the box couldn’t be fixed across the weekend and so we lost out on championship points from two of the three races, demoting us from third in the championship and from a strong challenge for second place down to fourth...But all that was about to change!

500,000 people going to University and there is STILL a shortage of GOOD engineers.

How is it possible that so many young people can be going to University and yet we are still struggling to find enough engineers – I decided to check out the headline and see whether it is true or just hearsay and if true, is it just the UK that is suffering?

ROCKINGHAM - GT Cup 2016

Rockingham’s high speed banked first turn meant that our short 6 gear we had been using would not suffice for this track. A new 6th gear ratio was picked up Wednesday, as believe it or not out of the many ratios we have the perfect set-up for 6th gear was not one we had on the Shelf. The gearbox was rebuilt Wednesday night and Thursday with the truck packed we headed off to the circuit...

Should motor racing officials be paid?

I would be interested to hear your views on whether you think motor racing officials should be paid and if they were, to what level. At the moment we are talking for those that are not volunteers, the princely sum of mileage and expenses. In return they are giving up their time, being put under a great deal of stress in the event of an incident, getting virtually no thanks when they get everything right and total vilification when they get it wrong...

BRANDS HATCH - GT Cup 2016

The eagle eyed readers of our race reports may have noticed that I’m using a 80’s classic songs theme for all titles this year. I wasn’t the only one that wondered…… and then blew a gasket

The blog from just after the F1 touched a few nerves and the feedback has been quite Marmite – agree vehemently or disagree with a passion. I still think that the F1 circus has gone too far and risks becoming a parody of itself, if it has not already got there but, Hey, who am I to say? However, Gary Hartstein, former F1 doctor; so a chap that has been close to action in a big way has finally given up on F1. His own blog was posted on March 26th and I am unashamed to be “reblogging” this because of what he says and the conviction he has. Now I haven’t always agreed with Gary – some of his Michael Schumacher injury posts rattled my cage, but on this occasion I think he is spot on....
