April 2025 marks 10 years since the start of the National Motorsport Academy. Over the last decade, we’ve had the privilege of supporting thousands of students in motorsport, and it wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Our Story so Far

2010

The Vision

Academy Director Kevin Riley speaks with team principals across motorsport and identifies a shortage of qualified motorsport engineers. He sets out to change that.

2014

Laying the Foundations

NDA Foundation Directors Kevin and Pauline Riley meet with Kieran Reeves to explore the idea of a motorsport degree designed for industry professionals.

2015

The Birth of the National Motorsport Academy

After months of development, the National Motorsport Academy launches in April—and is an instant success!

2016

A Year of Firsts

Tutors Roger Grimshaw and Wayne Gater join the team, having worked with Kieran before. Team NMA also completes its first full GT Cup season, racing the Lotus Evora GTE.

2018

Championship Glory

In just its third season as a student-run team, Team NMA wins the GTO title in the GT Cup Championship with the Mosler MT900. The tutor team expands further

2019

A New Course & A New Partner

Building on its success, NMA launches the MSc Advanced Motorsport Engineering degree and partners with De Montfort University, Leicester.

2020

Leading the Online Revolution

As the world shifts online, NMA experiences rapid growth—proving it was already ahead of the game.

2021

Expanding Horizons

NMA teams up with industry expert Genevieve Gordon-Thomson to launch the MA Business of Motorsport, designed for professionals in sports, business, and engineering.

2023

Excellence Recognised

NMA achieves a 100% satisfaction rate in the National Student Survey (NSS), scoring top marks for teaching, resources, and course content.

2024

IMechE Accreditation

NMA proudly becomes a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), further cementing its industry reputation.

2025
