About the Job Role

Motorsport software jobs include: Software Developer, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Performance Software Engineer.
Many see the position of software engineers as being behind the scenes but in motorsport, race set up, strategy and management software drives almost all decisions made both before, during and after a race. The majority of major race teams have bespoke software platforms which rely on dedicated support from experienced software engineers and candidates are in high demand. Motorsport software jobs range from entry-level Junior Software Developer positions where programming skills are more important than experience in motorsport engineering, to project-based roles where a good understanding of mechanical engineering principles will be required.

About the Person

You’ll need a solid background in software development/engineering, as well as a formal qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar discipline at degree level. A recent job advert for Haas F1 Team had the following required skillset:
  • Educated to degree-level or working towards a higher-level qualification in Software Engineering or Computer Science
  • Analytical, organised and able to prioritise workloads
  • Able to communicate ideas and work with a close-knit team
  • An understanding of applied physics, mathematics, modelling and simulation principles
  • Strong problem-solving skills

About the Tech

Motorsport software jobs can involve integrating existing systems and software as well as developing bespoke solutions for teams and manufacturers. As with most software engineering and development positions, the roles are varied and numerous.
