BRANDS HATCH – GT Cup Rounds 4,5 & 6 – 9th & 10th May 2015

1st Place for the National Motorsport Academy Lotus Evora in the GTC category of the GT Cup at Brands Hatch

After a small electrical fire in the dashboard panel before the first race, Ben from Cosworth Engines who was helping the team to adjust traction control and ABS on the Lotus, promised a replacement panel. This was delivered promptly at 6.00. a.m. the next day by Rob from Cosworth, as promised.  After a small ‘coming together’ with a radical by driver Kevin Riley in the first race on Sunday, the chances of a podium were looking unlikely, as the grid position for the second race is determined by the time achieved in the first!

BRANDS HATCH - GT Cup Rounds 4,5 & 6 - 9th & 10th May 2015

After fresh tyres from the ever-helpful Pirelli guys, despite starting in 20th position on the grid, Gareth Downing drove an inspired race, weaving his way through the pack in the National Motorsport Academy Ex-Le Mans Lotus Evora, racing in the GTC category of the GT Cup series. After some inspired driving Gareth finished 1st in the GTC class and 5th overall in the race – an amazing maiden win for the Lotus; as this has been mothballed since Le Mans 2011 and is still under development.

The team consisted of Kieran Reeves, Director of Motorsport for NMA, Gareth Downing co-driver and the Technical Expert from Staffordshire University and students from Staffordshire University Motorsport. An excellent result and congratulations to everyone on the team for a job well done and thanks to Ben and Rob from Cosworth for getting the car out on track!
