Daniel Vidal: My NMA Story
Written by MSc Advanced Motorsport Engineering Graduate, Daniel VidalÂ
After my Bachelors degree in automotive engineering I started working as a motorsport mechanic but realised after a few years that I wanted more. That is why I decided to become an engineer and enrolled in the Masters course at the NMA. This allowed me to continue my freelance mechanic activities and combine studying from home in Belgium.
I got in contact with tutor Tim Mullis for my dissertation and decided to 3D scan the suspension system of an LMP3 car with a focus on the third elements, to simulate motion in CAD and make new math channels with the obtained motion ratio’s. With a bit of luck, I found Motorsport98, a team that was testig their newly delivered Ligier JSP325 at circuit Zolder and contacted the owner
We spoke about my project and planned a day to make it happen. After 3D scanning the car, I got offered a freelance mechanic position in the team for the 2025 season in Michelin Le Mans Cup! To bring the story back to Tim Mullis, I met him at the circuit of Barcelona during the first round of the season. We had a really pleasant chat and we will most likely bump into eachother every other race weekend in 2025
