Tell us about yourself, Anderson!
My Name is Anderson Chilcott, I’m 23 and I study the MA Business of Motorsport. IÂ am currently working on module 6.Â
I started karting at the age of six and quickly fell in love with the sport. I competed at all levels, from club racing to world championship events. My best achievements as a driver include finishing 3rd in the British Championship, becoming Vice British Grand Prix Champion, and Vice British Open Champion. After my driving career ended in 2019, I wanted to stay involved in the sport, so I began driver coaching. I quickly built a strong client base and have since grown my brand, allowing me to coach across Europe for Sam Pollitt Racing as well as individual drivers. This has been an incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to continue developing talent in the sport I love.

What’s the best part of being a driver coach?
What I enjoy most about my career is the ability to do what I love every day. I also appreciate the opportunity to travel as part of my work, as I have a deep passion for exploring new places. My most rewarding moment so far was winning my first major event as a coach in 2021, securing the GP Plate with one of my drivers. It’s an honor to help develop young talent and guide them on their journey to becoming racing drivers.
What made you choose the NMA?
I discovered the course while searching for postgraduate business roles within Formula 1 and saw it as a great opportunity to expand my knowledge of the industry while continuing my driver coaching career.
How’s your NMA experience going?
I have enjoyed the course, but it has been challenging as it is a level above my bachelor’s degree. The tutors have supported me throughout the modules via Teams calls, which has helped me improve my work.
Do you like the flexibility of the course?
I have found the online format enjoyable, as it provides the freedom to work at my own pace. However, it can sometimes be challenging to create a structured approach to completing assignments. That said, this has pushed me to become more organised and disciplined.
Has the course helped enhance your work as a driver coach?
Yes, the course has definitely helped me create more structure in my work and provide a better service by applying the knowledge I have gained.
How do you manage balancing work and study?
A large part of my week is spent traveling from race track to race track. However, I am fortunate enough to be a member of David Lloyd, which provides me with a workspace wherever I am in the country. This allows me to dedicate time to completing my studies alongside my coaching commitments.
What’s your dream once you’ve completed your degree?
My dream is to become a driver manager or work for an F1 academy. However, I would love to be involved in the Formula 1 business in any capacity
How important is further education to you?
Further education provides you with knowledge that can be applied to any role. It also offers specialized motorsport experience, helping to enhance your skills and expand your CV, making you a stronger candidate in the industry.
